Coop (or versus)
A coop mode where you can play together with some friends. Plan together, build together. Split tasks. A simple coop-mode like prison architect has would be ok.
Or do some negotiation or sabotage in a pvp-mode.

I would love to play this sort of game in a co-op mode, both VS and building together but like some of the other comments here, I agree that focus should be on the main single player experience first, feature creep can be a mighty problem for scope. Perhaps open up development to modders and see if anyone can assist in such a task.
A recent good example is Dyson Sphere where the Nebula team created a fully functioning multiplayer ("recent", they've been supporting it for years and props to them), me and my mates played it as a group and it was top stuff, it was fun to compare different build styles and resource pipelines, ended up learning tonnes from them and vice versa.
@Chris S you can find their multiplayer in the Thunderstore mod client if you wanted to give it a go, just search Dyson Sphere Nebula and it will come up. We had 3 of us on 1 save but I think it supports more. It has some limitations but all in all goo
I guess I would lean towards a "build together" sort of mode. -

AlexandraNo, let them focus their efforts on making the best single player game they can and not waste time and money on something I and many others will never use.

RashadjinNo.
Enormous resource drain that should be outside of project scope. Makes for a far worse single player or core game experience due to diverted developer resources and the sacrifices on engine and game complexity required to make multiplayer happen. -

CalMultiplayer would be awesome and it is often a driving decision whether I purchase and play a game. That said, I have rarely seen multiplayer programmed effectively. Oftentimes, devs half-ass the multiplayer function in games and make it a bug loaded, miserable, crashfest of an experience (Satisfactory ring a bell?). If you do it, DO IT properly and dedicate appropriate resources to make it enjoyable. If so, YES PLEASE!

ThomasiGreat, we are always looking for games like this with multiplayer-mode. SP we don´t like at all.

Sapphire KnightMaking a co-op or Vs. mode BEFORE the game is completed is just not good sense. Finish and polish the SP game before thinking of other modes. After the SP is done, then let them focus on the Co-op/Vs. modes. I personally will never play co-op or Vs. as this is not a game that I see as that type.

Chris SPlease, add Co-Op. Do not compromise on quality for it, but if you can, add multiplayer. No servers, just a private host so you can play with a few friends. Too many building games are solo only, and it is just sad. Dyson Sphere Project and Anno come to mind and it has prevented me and many of my friends from playing. If we play, we want to play together, not alone. And honestly, I prefer playing a mediocre or even bad title with friends over a good one alone.
It does not need to be much. We do not need a voice or even text chat, no lobby searching, no servers, just direct connect via steam. -

AaronI do think multiplayer would be interesting, and I would prefer co-op compared to pvp, though both could be fun. However, I think that if it is something that will be added, it should only be after the majority of the single player part of the game is finished. Adding multiplayer now would add too much work, which might decrease the quality of work or drastically increase the time it will take to complete the game.

Frank HIt's interesting people think they need to "vote down" other peoples upvotes by commenting a "no" here. ;-)
Coop Multiplayer is of course something that would fit this game as much as it does every other similar building game. It shouldn't even be a massive resource drain as other suggest as it does need any separation of game resources. Of course it needs work and is probably the most complex features in the top 10 I think it's definitely something that opens the game up for quite a bunch of new people.
Definitely looking forward to this being added and also very happy to assist with testing with tons of experience. -

Commissioner Jean Claude Van DanI don't see why every Single player game has to have people asking for it to be multiplayer and waste development time.
Please don't bow to this request, this is a single player game and just focus on making it the best you can. Don't give in to these stupid requests which will add nothing to the overall gameplay. -

zw98I love the idea. Definitely something I'd want once the single player is in a complete state.

Kelurymj'aime bien l'idée d'un mode coop mais je préférerai de loin un jeux solo bien développé et l'ajout de scénario avec certaines recherches déjà découvertes et d'autre non accessibles pour des parties plus courte.

deiroxIt's a good idea, but only after the singleplayer is worked out, otherwise it turns out that both the single and the co-op are incomplete.

TheTestGuyNo. Most builder games flat out at Co-op or PvP for a reason. It defeats the purpose of a builder game in the first place. That's not your product's USP.
And nobody's first consideration of buying a builder's game is to go engage in idustrial espionage and sabatoge as their primary goal. As developers, you have limited time and resources to waste.
